Police Action or War?
As the Department of Defense gears up to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Korean War, the powers that be in Washington finally decided to change the name of the series of battles fought in Korea 1950-53 from the "Korean Conflict" to the "Korean War". Public Law 105-261, effective October 17, 1998, set the limit to what the DOD can spend to carry out the Korean War commemorative program for fiscal year 1999 not to exceed $1,820,000. The DOD commemoration account name was changed from Korean Conflict account to Korean War account. Further, in the publications produced for the DOD, the Korean War is no longer to be referred to as the Korean Conflict.
